Given the many challenges students now face in our digital world, educators need to consider the how, what and why of teaching digital literacy. Abbotsford Virtual School’s “Learning in a Digital World” program teams an online and a classroom teacher to purposely teach middle school students how to use the internet effectively, digital citizenship and personal privacy protection. This co-teaching relationship between DL and mainstream school supports learners who are just entering into online learning and social media with a desire to reduce the negative impacts in subsequent years.
