This presentation shares how the transformative system and structures of starting a new public school “”start-up””. How staff’s mindset went from Distributed Learning to a Blended Learning mindset. We will share how our little learning lab has helped transform our (and others in the district) instructional practice so that it is in complete alignment with the new provincial curriculum. As well we will share how our incubator of ideas has manifested itself in a legitimate public school that has waitlists for every program.
I will share when I first came to the DL world; my mindset was to make it more like a regular high school. My mindset has changed. The presentation will focus on the notion that regular bricks and mortar schools need to embrace the flexibility of Blended Learning and reevaluate the systems and structures within regular schools that hold back student learning. The presentation will suggest that disruption and innovation in all schools need to occur to implement some form of BL which is in alignment with the new provincial curriculum. This disruption and innovation will allow for the ultimate in learning without limits for both the student and teacher.
